it's that time of year again.
the weather has finally warmed up to the point where boots are no longer standard footwear, the sun has begun to warm our faces, and the snow is finally gone. it's also the time for subbotnik, or cleaning up all the debris the melting snow has left behind. it's essentially citywide spring cleaning.
most of the grunt work is done by school children (free child labor!). classes are cancelled for grades in rotating order; for example, 6th graders will have the day off to go clean the school ground and park, then the next day 7th graders, and so on. and this lasts for about a week or two.
and i'm sure that, while the kids must love not having to study, raking leaves and cleaning can't be all that much better.
