*we sell WHAT?!?

every monday, on my way back from my russian tutor's house, i always take a look the town объявление (announcement) board, since it's on my way home, and since it's a pretty good way to find out what's going on in our small town. usually there isn't anything of interest to me, since on most days it's just run of the mill apartments for rent and cars for sale, with the occasional the circus is coming to town.
last week, however, a colorful (and by colorful i really mean not black and white) advertisement caught my attention. printed in large blue letters was the phrase "мы купим волосы! самая высокая цена!". not to toot my own horn or anything, but my russian is pretty good. and this ad was basically proclaiming, "we buy hair! the highest prices!" i must not have translated it correctly, i thought to myself, because no way is this ad for hair.
once i arrived home, i cracked open my trusty kenneth katzner english-russian russian-english dictionary, just to be sure. волоконный, волонтёр, here we are, волосы.
волосы pl. n. hair.
indeed, there's just the one definition. unbelievably, this ad was calling for all interested people to sell their hair on november 26th. and they buy hair at the very highest prices, no less!

and so, the moral of the story? (and, incidentally, the moral of most stories here in kazakhstan)
KZ: you can't make this shit up!
